Comic-Con 2010 - A Belated Update

As many of you may know, Comic-Con 2010 took place this past Thursday through Sunday (July 21st to July 25th, 2010).

I figured it would be a good idea to give everyone a rundown of the event and the best places to catch up on coverage of it.

In case you don't know anything about Comic-Con it is an annual fan convention in San Diego, CA. It covers topics ranging from sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, film and of course - comics. What really makes Comic-Con stand out to me, and the reason I'm dying to go someday, is the variety of what is presented. The con tackles so many different aspects of geek pop culture. Can you say heaven on Earth?!

Any given day at Comic-Con you can sit in on a how-to workshop with a top comic book artist, attend a panel on the newest fighting game from a leading developer, get the buzz on a big shot director's latest project, watch anime all day long, take pictures of the local cosplay color or buy some really sweet shit in the showroom (trust me - you can blow serious amounts of cash at cons). Honestly, it's a bit like going to nerd school! You can learn skills like costume design or listen to a lecture about the history of comics in the 21st century.

Yes, many other cons showcase the things I've mentioned above, but nothing features them on such a large scale. I am just amazed by how much is announced at the con in general. The people who attend become such insiders because they hear everything first! I have to admit - I'm pretty jealous :P

Some interesting criticism surrounding the event involves overcrowding. If you have ever been to a con, this is not a surprise. Apparently, Comic-Con is scheduled to stay in San Diego until 2012. Who knows where it will end up after that. Maybe Florida?!

Since a ridiculous amount of information was released during Comic-Con, I suggest you catch up for yourself. Here are some great sites that can help:

Game Informer
G4
Screen Rant
Gamespot
Kotaku

What do you think? Is the con worth the $100 price tag? What conventions have you been to? I'd love to hear about your experiences!

Alrighty folks, I plan on getting back to the computer tomorrow to talk a little about the con I attend every year in Atlanta, GA! Try not to get too excited :)

Love,
The Girl Informer
