Get your geek on

Hi friends!

Tonight I'm going to talk about a fun local event my friend shared with me. For those of us who reside in Gainesville, you've probably at least heard of Mars Pub and Laser Tag downtown. The establishment is pretty self explanatory, but basically it combines two awesome activities into one location.

On Sunday, July 31, Mars will be host Barcraft - a special viewing of the Starcraft MLG finals. First off, let me talk briefly about Starcraft for those who are unfamiliar with it. StarCraft is a popular PC real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It's pretty well known for incorporating military and sci-fi elements, engaging gameplay and a compelling storyline.

The latest installment of the series, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, is a part of MLG's Pro Circuit. What is MLG, you ask? Well, it stands for Major League Gaming - a professional e-sports league that hosts official video game tournaments and competitions throughout the United States and Canada. Other Pro Circuit games include Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Mars will be streaming live coverage of the MLG Finals from Anaheim, California. Here's the perk - you can take advantage of some great beer specials while watching the SC2 matches. Click on the flier to the right for more information!

I have to say, it's nice to see a local place embracing the gaming community. I think it can be hard to do so in a small city. Sure, California is a huge gaming hub. I mean, Comic-Con just finished up this weekend, after all. Large cities just tend to lean this way in general. I've discovered that Altanta is a pretty solid nerd city, too. Since we can't all afford to live in big cities, I'm excited for a little bit of geek to hit Gainesville!

Plus, a little birdie told me gaming nights such as this might become a regular thing, so make sure to show your support!

Hope to see you there!

Love,
The Girl Informer
