I'm going to have a long Christmas list this year...

After purchasing a new game the other day, I realized it would be fun to write a (semi) short preview of all of the sweet shit being released in the coming months.

The start of school and the holiday season seem to be when the greatest and latest games are released. I want to cover some of the games I am personally excited about, as well as others I find interesting. It's my blog, so I can write about whatever I want! Some of these games have already been released, while some I am patiently waiting for!

The first game I want to talk about is the reason I might be buying a PSP. Birth by Sleep came out on September 7, and I really wish I was playing it right now :P It is a prequel to the Kingdom Hearts series, taking place 10 years before the original. I don't like the fact that none of the characters are familiar, except Mickey. Still, the storyline involving Xehanort seems interesting. It is always cool to get another point of view on the antagonist of a series, which I think Birth by Sleep will provide. The ratings are currently very high, as well.

A few days ago I put money down on yet another Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light will be released October 5. I'm stoked for this game. I love classic RPGs and it looks like this game will hit the nail on the head. I mean, come on, the trailer below promises adventure and friendship! There are dragons, kings, princesses and over 20 jobs! Can it get any better? I'm spending money on it, so I sure hope so :P My only legitimate concern is that the game will lack any originality. It is hard to keep things fresh in a series with so many installments! At least the music score sounds amazing, though :) If you're like me, you will be picking up a pre-order of this game on the fifth.

Another game that I am way too stoked for is Epic Mickey. Actually, I'm a bit obsessed. I don't know why, but I just love Mickey. Apparently I'm not the only one, though, because the game has received a crap ton of coverage in magazines like Game Informer and websites like Kotaku. The game even received a coveted cover spot on the front of GI. Not too shabby for a mouse.

The only thing I am angry about is that Epic Mickey is being released exclusively on the Wii. I don't have a Wii. I guess I will be getting a Wii. I mean, the game introduces a long lost Disney character - Mickey's brother Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (I guess that makes sense?). It looks like the game with be a platformer with RPG elements. Players will get to run around with a magic paintbrush, fighting enemies and altering the scenery. Mickey can also play as different roles (renowed as a hero or feared by all!) depending on the actions you choose. Sounds like fun to me!

Another reason I might be inviting a Wii into my home is so my boyfriend can play the new Zelda game for the platform. Skyward Sword is a prequel to Ocarina of Time. Zelda obviously has a huge following, but the gameplay is supposed to be a bit different in this installment. The technical aspects of the game were a hot topic at E3 2010. The controls are going to be revised, with swordplay based on Wii MotionPlus. Sword and bow attacks for the game seem like they are going to be pretty unconventional, honestly. The game is supposed to be released in early 2011.

All right, let me talk about some games OTHER people might like.

One is Halo Reach. Listen guys. I am not a Halo fan. I am just so bad at the game. I end falling off a cliff half the time and shooting myself in the face the other half. No one else agrees with me, though. Halo is like a freaking revolution. Check out this article on Yahoo. The game is so massively popular that it's recent release could throw off the entire gaming industry! Talk about power.

Two other titles that will certainly be big sellers are Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Fable III. Both are installments in major franchises with large followings. Castlevania: LOS is an attempt by Konami to add a solid 3D game to the series, since Castlevania is best known for its 2D versions. It hits stores October 5.

With Lionhead's Fable III, it is the job of game designer Peter Molyneux to improve on all of the faults from Fable II. The second game in the series was released earlier than it should have been, causing a lot of glitchy issues. Molyneux is known for making big promises and taking on too much, but hopefully he learned his lesson and will choose quality over quantity. Find out on October 26.

I will finish off with the most highly-anticipated (kind of an understatement) online game or MMO to come out this year. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm adds two new races to the mix - Goblins and the wolf-life Worgen. I am currently lucky enough to say that I am not addicted to WoW, but I'm sure this expansion will only increase gameplay. It will also welcome new players to the mix and attract old ones who got tired of the scenery. It is expected to arrive soon, but there are no solid answers on that front.

I think I've gone on long enough. I found an interesting article in the process of writing this post that I think will be the subject of my next entry! Keep an eye out for it :)

Love,
The Girl Infomer
